Free cycle training sessions across Hounslow
This one-to-one session is designed to train competent riders on difficult junctions, traffic lights and roundabout.
Please refer back to our weekly Group sessions if:
- you’re a complete beginner who would like to start cycling;
- or you need to gain confidence on-road
Our fully trained instructors follow the nationally recognised Bikeability syllabus, starting with an off-road assessment of skills for all participants and then building from there. We can also offer support planning and riding a route to work or school, if that is your cycling aim.
The session will last for 2 hours maximum.
Unless otherwise discussed with our instructor, sessions begin at our hub in Lampton Park, Hanworth Park or Osterley Park, where we are able to lend a range of bikes and helmets if you do not have one.
The 2 hour session may cover the following:
* Preparing for a journey |
* Understanding advanced road positioning |
* Passing queuing trafficked |
* Hazard perception and strategy to deal with hazards |
* Understanding driver blind spots, particularly for HGV’s |
* Reacting to hazardous road surfaces |
* How to use roundabouts (Not compulsory) |
* How to use signalised junctions (Not compulsory) |
* How to use multi-lane roads (Not compulsory) |
* How to use both on and off road cycle infrastructure (Not compulsory) |
* Dealing with vehicles that pull in and stop (Not compulsory) |
* Sharing the road with other cyclists (Not compulsory) |
* Cycling on roads with a speed limit above 30 mph (Not compulsory) |
* Cycling in bus lanes (Not compulsory) |
* Cycling in pairs or groups (Not compulsory) |
* Locking a bike securely (Not compulsory) |
We ask riders to confirm that they and people they live with have been symptom free for 14 days. Additionally when confirming the booking please let us know if you are in a vulnerable group.
Our instructors will meet you in the park or prearranged location, where they will begin by assessing your cycling level before starting your level 3.
Deposit & booking process
Each resident can book up to 1 session – please attend our regular drop on group sessions for more training experience.
Bikeworks charges a fully refundable £5.00 deposit for the level 3 session, which will be returned in full on completion of the session.
Once your £5.00 deposit has been paid, you will receive an email with a link allowing you to select a time and date for your session.
Can’t find a slot that suits you? Not to worry! Our Instructors are constantly opening up new slots so please keep a regular eye out on the booking page for a more suited time.
Cancellation policy: you have up to 2 working days before the session to cancel or re-schedule your session with your instructor. After this time we will be unable to refund your deposit or re-schedule your session.
Eligibility
You must live, work or study in the London Borough of Hounslow and must be over 16 years old.
Location
Training takes place at either Cycling hub listed below or at a flexible location if you are not in need of a cycle or helmet.
- Lampton Park Hub (Next to the underpass from Bulstrode avenue) approximate postcode is TW3 4DE
- Hanworth Park Hub (Entrance by Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre & Library) approximate postcode is TW13 5EG
- Osterley Park Hub near National Trust – Osterley Park and House, Jersey Rd, Isleworth TW7 4RB
- Flexible Location – Our instructors can arrange to meet you at a preferred site, which they consider appropriate for cycle training.
This can be organised when the instructor confirms the booking. (Cycles Not Provided).
Bike Rental
If you are unable to provide your own bike, we will be able to supply one for free with a helmet at Lampton Park, Hanworth Park & Osterley Park Cycling Hubs.
